Choose a database appropriate for your topic. Our Virtual Reference Desk contains numerous databases for you to gather articles from newspapers and magazines from around the world. Certain databases contain specific information for specific areas of interest:

Two sources for quick article retrieval in the VRC are
. SIRS Researcher
. ProQuest For literary criticisms you would want to search through
. Lit Finder
. Twayne's Authors Series Information on social issues can be found in
. Facts.com Issues & Controversies
. SIRS Researcher Once you have chosen your database, begin with a keyword search or natural language.

Once logged onto the database try, when possible, to view the entire text of the article.

Important: When still in the database, check to see if there is a button that says "full text." If so, you can print or e-mail the entire article right from there.

Remember, as you search, try to acquire alternate terminology for your topic. This will help you locate various threads that you can weave into your topic. For more information on effective search strategies see HOW DO I SEARCH? Remember when all else fails ask your librarian.
