TEST ACCOMMODATIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

As you know, your child's high school years are very important in the post high school planning process. If your child is college bound, part of the planning may include taking the PSAT, SAT, ACT and/or AP exams.  These tests are administrated through private testing companies and require specific paperwork for eligibility.  If your child has an IEP or 504 Plan that provides the use of test modifications, or if your child is currently receiving transitional support services or has been declassified with test modifications, he/she may be able to use these modifications on these exams.

College Board (PSAT/SAT/AP Exams):

In order to be reviewed prior to the start of the academic year through the College Board, you must complete a release form in order to be considered for testing modifications.  By signing the release form, you will be allowing the
high school's SSD Coordinator, Mrs. Roell, to secure your child’s most recent Individualized Education Plan, (IEP), psychological testing, and educational testing results. Mrs. Roell will be submitting your child’s documentation of a disability to the College Board on the College Board’s secured web site.  Information to be sent via the Internet will include your child’s name, date of birth, social security number (optional), address, phone number, e-mail address (optional), educational testing results, and the testing modifications that your child currently receives. This form must be completed and returned to the North Guidance Office.

*** IMPORTANT -Please note the following information:

  • If your child has already been approved for testing accommodations through the College Board, it is imperative that you include their SSD number at the time they register for the exam.  If you do not include this number, the student will not be assigned to a special testing room on the day of the test.
    • Online registration - there will be a field to enter the SSD number
    • Paper registration - attach a copy of the letter sent to you by the College Board indicating that accommodations were approved   
  • If your child has been approved for 100% extended time and/or a reader, their test will be administered during the school day, not on the Saturday test date.  If this applies to your student, you must contact Mrs. Roell to arrange school-based testing.

ACT:

Beginning in junior year, eligibility for ACT accommodations are made six weeks prior to exam with the submission of additional paperwork along with the original ACT test application.
