Our mission is to ensure that students have the skills and opportunity to access, evaluate, and use information whether in print or electronically.

By aligning with the standards listed below, our goal as library media specialists’ within Sachem HS East Library is to connect learners with ideas and information in an open, friendly, welcoming environment. We prepare students for life-long learning, informed decision making, a love of reading and the use of information technologies. The library media specialists play a critical role in the support of the curriculum, the introduction of new learning technologies, and the teaching of information skills in a positive learning environment in which all students can become independent learners. In addition, we provide faculty, staff and students with the most current research information available.

National Standards:
American Association of School Librarians – Standards for the 21 st-Century Learner

These learning standards define nine foundational common beliefs:

• Reading is a window to the world.
• Inquiry provides a framework for learning.
• Ethical behavior in the use of information must be taught.
• Technology skills are crucial for future employment needs. 
• Equitable access is a key component for education.
• The definition of information literacy has become more complex as resources and technologies have changed.
• The continuing expansion of information demands that all individuals acquire the thinking skills that will enable them to learn on their own.
• Learning has a social context.
• School libraries are essential to the development of learning skills.

The Library is open on school days from 7:20 am until 2:30 pm.  A school media specialist is available to assist you with your thirst for information and/or knowledge.
