Homework:  Every night (Mon.—Thurs.), your child is expected to complete math assignments (fact practice and guided practice), spelling assignments and sometimes another reading or writing assignment.  If HW is not completed the consequence is a loss of recess to complete the HW.

Homework Pass: A student can earn a homework pass in one of 3 ways. 1. They get one for their birthday. 2.They earn one for completing and returning all the home work assigned in the previous month. 3. They win an in class review game.

******** A Homework Pass is only used on ONE piece of that night’s H.W. and you can not use more than one a night!************

Weekly folders:  Every Friday your child will take home the spelling test, week’s schoolwork and HW.  Please review missed concepts and spelling words (misspelled words should be done 5x each in HW book).  Please sign the spelling test.  Bring them back to school on Monday and keep the rest of the work.  Make sure you sit with your child and review everything in the weekly folder.

Homework notebook:  Please sign and check your child’s HW nightly.  Don’t forget to empty their take-home folders.

Snack:  I ask that all students bring in ONE snack for the day and make sure it is a healthy one.  Be aware that we are a peanut / tree nut product free classroom and choose snacks appropriately.

Math Assessments: Every week or so your child will take a math assessment on facts and on concepts taught.  PLEASE REVIEW MATH FACTS WITH YOUR CHILD NIGHTLY. Flash cards are a great way to do that.  Check the website on the concepts being taught each week.  Please return and sign all math assessments when they are sent home.

Guided Reading:  Your child will meet in their reading group at least twice a week.  When your child comes home with a book please make sure they read it nightly.  They can read it with a parent or independently.

Writer’s Notebook:  This book is a tool to be used when composing a written piece.  In this book I am not critiquing your child’s work.  This notebook is a fun tool to motivate your child to write. 

For example; your child may list fall sounds and sights .  When it comes to a poetry unit your child may want to write a poem about autumn.  They can then refer to there list in their writer’s notebook to help guide them through the poetry writing.

Early Dismissals and Bus Route Changes: Please send in a note for either of these issues.  I can’t send a student on any other bus or let them walk home without a note from a parent/guardian.

Weekly Spelling HW

Monday           Write all of the words in ABC order and the Last 5 words                           3x’s each

 

Tuesday           #1-5 in sentences (5 or more words and have them write                           the different types of sentences. Telling, Command,                           Question, Exclamatory)

 

Wednesday      #6-10 in sentences (same as above)

 

Thursday         # 11 -15 in sentences (same as above)

 

Friday               Test!!

 

All Spelling HW is done in HW notebook, neatly and MUST have a heading!!
