Top Ten Ways to Find a Good Book

1. Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover or title.

2. The description or blurb makes you want to read more.

3.  Great beginnings  -  read the first sentence, paragraph, or page.

4.  Pick by genre: I love a mystery, scary book, romance, adventure, sports story, etc.

5. There are more just like it! Look for books in a series.

6. Great Author!

7.  Do the Five Finger Test:  Pick a page in the middle of the book and read.  If you do not know a word, put a finger down.
If you end up with five fingers down,  choose another book.

8.  Any good books? Ask your teacher or Librarian for a "winner".

9.  Saw the movie? Now read the book!

10. Ask your friends! Read any good books?

We are so happy with our beautiful new facility.  Our library contains almost 10,000 books including fiction, folktales, picture books, easy readers, story collections and biographies.  We have subscriptions to approximately 20 child appropriate periodicals which are also available to be borrowed.  We also have a small professional collection and lots of wonderful reference books.

We have an instructional area with a laptop with internet access and a projector with a SMART Board for group instruction.  We also have eleven desktop computers with internet access for student use.

My personal goal as the librarian is to create an atmosphere of fun and learning.  It is truly important to me that my students ENJOY their weekly library period while learning research and library skills as well as literature appreciation!
