Both the Sachem East and Sachem North swim teams had great success this past season. Some swimmers will continue at the upcoming state meet as well.

For Sachem East, after going 5-4 overall and 4-1 in league play, nine girls competed at the Suffolk County championship meet.

“This is AvaGrace Monti’s first year on the varsity team and is extremely excited to represent the team in Ithaca,” Sachem East coach Kathleen Dugan said.

Senior diver Amanda Freund finished her high school diving career with a No. 13 placement at the county meet.

“Freund is one of our hardest workers and sweetest girls,” Dugan said. “She is a true teammate and selfless person who is always cheering on her teammates and competitors.”

Other individual competitors from Sachem East: sophomore Paige Levine: 200- and 500-yard freestyle, 2:08.40, 5:39.44; senior Alejandra Przybylo: 100-yard fly (1:07.79); freshmen Faith Maddox: 100-yard free (:59.47); sophomore Ava Corrigan: 100-yard back (1:06.01); and junior Valerie Mei: 100-yard breast (1:16.60).

The following girls made the state qualifying meet: Alyssa Golden and Alexandra Martinez, eighth grade; Morgan Rietmann, ninth grade; Katherine Howard and Samantha Watson, 10th grade; and Christen Wolffer, 11th grade. Golden, Howard, Martinez, Rietmann and Watson were All-League.

The biggest highlight for the team was defeating Ward Melville in a dual meet during the regular season since Ward Melville went on to win the county title.

Ava Davis and Lydia Hicylimas made their diving debuts and did very well in leagues. Davis is an eighth grader and Hicylimas is in seventh grade.
“We have a very young team and a very bright future,” Sachem North coach Al Scott said. “I am very proud of this team and look forward to the next several years.”
