At the May 5 meeting of the Sachem Central School District Board of Education, the Board recognized four outstanding students who were named valedictorian and salutatorian at High School East and High School North.

The meeting began by recognizing High School East valedictorian Mackenzie Szlosek and salutatorian Jayden Reilly and High School North valedictorian Erika Sneider and salutatorian Hannah Saglimbeni for their incredible dedication to academics.

In addition, high school music students earning honors from the New York State School Music Association and the National Association for Music Education for displaying incredible proficiency vocally or playing their respective instrument were recognized.

Concluding the recognition portion of the meeting, the Board of Education dedicated the Board room to Salvatore Nicosia, a dedicated community member, author, educator and social worker who was a longtime advocate for education and frequent attendee of the Board of Education meetings. Mr. Nicosia passed away in September at the age of 92. He dedicated his life to promoting quality education and worked tirelessly to spread its importance wherever he went.
