This month, Hiawatha Elementary School teachers Lori Furnell and Jennifer Schiotis developed a project where students learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They watched videos from his “I Have a Dream” speech to further their knowledge on the historic figure.

Students then shared their own hope and dreams for the future. They then filled their boards with visual images to motivate them to accomplish their dreams and to gain inspiration.

Throughout the project students made connections with each other as they shared their common aspiration for the future.

Through the creation of their vision boards, students used photographs as talking points and connected over having the same flag, sharing details about their culture and how they want to see the future.
