January-February
Second,
third, fourth and fifth grade classroom teachers in each building identify
candidates based on I.Q. scores, standardized test scores, characteristic
rating scales, and class performance.
February
All
building identification forms are presented to an impartial committee
consisting of the building principal, the teachers of the Gifted, and the
administrator in charge of the GATE program.
March-June
Youngsters
selected by the committee are then administered the WISC-IV to determine
individual I.Q. scores. A score of 123
or higher is required for further consideration.
June
After
all testing is completed, a post-screening is held to determine which
students have met the qualifications for the GATE program. Individual results
of the post-screening are then mailed to the parents of all tested
students.
