Program Format and Thematic Units

The format of Sachem's Gifted and Talented Program is a modification of the Renzulli Enrichment Triad and incorporates aspects of other theoretical models (Bloom, Williams and Guilford) as they apply to the program goals and the needs of the students. Students attend GATE sessions during regular school hours, using a rotating schedule.

All students participate in interdisciplinary exploratory units to broaden their experiences and interests. The Thematic Unit Topics provide the students with opportunities to apply the skills outlined in the program goals. Since it is possible for students to participate in the program from one to four years, the curriculum follows a non-repetitive four-year cycle in which the desired skills are introduced and reinforced through a variety of unit activities.
