Throughout the year, student progress in the Program for the
Gifted is closely monitored by the teacher of the gifted, in conjunction with
the classroom teacher and administrator involved. Students are expected to
maintain a high level of achievement in their classroom, while demonstrating an
interest and an involvement in the Gifted Program activities.
GATE students must maintain a B or better in Math, Science,
Social Studies and English Language Arts. Students must not have any check
marks in the Work/Effort and Conduct/Attitude section of the quarterly report
cards. Students failing to meet these requirements may be removed from the
program until necessary improvements in the classroom are made. The GATE
teacher will discuss each situation with the classroom teacher, building
principal and parents in an effort to help the student.
In the event of a change in performance, the classroom
teacher and the teacher of the gifted will meet to discuss the youngster. From
this discussion, a conference with parents may be deemed necessary. The teacher
of the gifted will then meet with the parents to discuss the youngster's
progress in the program.
All students will receive two evaluations each year. Copies
are sent to the program director, building principal and classroom teacher.
These evaluations are filed in the student's permanent folder. A recommendation
for continuing in the Gifted Program will be part of the evaluation process.
