- ReadWriteThink.org
A great site that includes poetry templates, matching games, pod casts, literacy activities, creating comics and cartoons, a postcard maker, booklists, etc. (Look for the Summer Activities icon on the homepage.)
- WordWorld.com
This site is a favorite of parents and teachers! Word World is a PBS show where “words come alive.” The site features e-books that allow children to follow along with the story, word games and other fun word play.
- Sachem Public Library
The Sachem Public Library is a valuable summer resources for children and parents. One of the best features on the children’s homepage is Tumblebooks, a program that allows children to hear stories read aloud with text to follow along.
Always a favorite (see below for more Sachem Public Library links)
- FunBrain.com
A great site for kids in grades 3-5. Kids can make lists on-line, participate in blogs, read some of their favorite titles (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Brewster Rocket, Amelia Writes Again, etc.) as web books, play literacy games and much more.
- Wimpykid.com
A favorite series this year...learn more about the author, read blogs and upcoming news.
- Scholastic offers activities and ideas for students of all grade levels. This year’s theme, Summer Reading Buzz allows young people to track their summer reading on the Reader Meter, which translates to books donated to others in need. Students can also send e-cards and check out their “Celebrity Book Buzz”.
