Fueled by creativity and collaborative inspiration, first-grade students in Kendra Bernagozzi’s class at Hiawatha Elementary School visited the building’s STEAM room to participate in several challenging hands-on activities with their classmates.

As an introduction to the STEAM room, student groups visited six stations that allowed their creativity to flourish. Incorporating several basic design concepts, students built cup towers and structures with Legos, arranged pattern blocks, crafted three-dimensional paper sculptures and worked with plastic gears.

As students rotated through each station, they were continuously encouraged to try their best, explore, ask questions and learn from the mistakes they made while working on each activity.
