Tamarac Elementary School has been recognized by the New York State PTA as having the best Pick a Reading Partner program in the Suffolk Region for the 2016-2017 school year.

Titled “The Rock and Read PARP Tour,” the winning PTA-sponsored program incorporated four “stops” that explored multiple literary genres and provided enriched assembly programs for readers throughout the school year. Programs such as “Reading Rampage” and an author visit from Steve Metzger aimed to reinforce student reading, writing, vocabulary and punctuation skills. Dedicated parents and staff also provided innovative and engaging opportunities throughout the year that contributed to the widespread success of the building’s program.

“Our program only works if our teachers are on board and fully support the activities and the program,” said Tamarac Principal Michael Saidens. “In addition to all of our participants, I want to recognize Francine Richetti, Lori Capozzi and the PARP Committee for the amazing job they have done with this program and the support they provide our school community.”

At the conclusion of the year, the students had read more than 2,500 books through PARP.
