Dressed in red, white and blue, students and staff throughout the district stood in solidarity on Patriot’s Day and took part in individual remembrance ceremonies to honor the men and women who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

Students at Tamarac Elementary sang patriotic songs after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and planted American flags in front of the school. Hiawatha students listened to a morning announcement remembering the tragic events and the heroism displayed by many Americans that day.

At Samoset Middle School, students listened to a presentation by Rudy Prinici, a first responder who provided care to victims on site at the World Trade Center. He shared his experiences from the day and provided a look into the events that took place from a paramedic’s perspective, including showing personal photos and a bucket that was used in the bucket brigade.

Additionally, each building in the district participated in activities remembering the historic day.
