Tamarac Elementary School students turned tourists during a building-wide “trip around the world” event. Each grade was assigned a different country and spotlighted the country’s culture and traditions with a visual display in their respective grade level wing. Students then toured the building with their class and had their passports stamped at each country. They visited Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico and the United States.

Leading up to the event on May 15, the Tamarac Elementary School community collected toiletries and nonperishable food items to be donated to the Lighthouse Mission. Students and staff filled nearly 12 boxes of donations. The building challenge brought together the entire school while teaching students about different cultures.

With the spring comes science fair season, and young scientists in Sachem are presenting the experiments they’ve worked hard on. Hiawatha and Tamarac Elementary Schools both held science fairs this month. The cafeterias were filled with presentation boards as students explained their research to their families and peers. High school students from East and North visited the elementary schools to judge the projects. The first place winners will advance to the Brookhaven National Laboratory Science Fair in June!
